Prof. Sergiy Libert
Sergiy Libert was born in Kiev, Ukraine. After moving to the U.S., Sergiy Libert obtained a master’s degree in physics from Clarkson University in Potsdam, NY, where he studied nano-cluster interactions in cadmium sulfate colloidal particles. After becoming interested in the genetic control of lifespan and longevity, he switched research fields and obtained his Ph.D. from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX. During his Ph.D. studies at Baylor, he identified neuronal networks in the brain of Drosophila melanogaster that are capable of modifying metabolism and longevity. After a post-doctoral fellowship at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where Sergiy Libert studied the role of the metabolic gene SIRT1 in the brain of mammals, he was recruited to the Cornell University Department of Biomedical Sciences as an Assistant Professor.
